On Saturday the 12th March, Flinders Island Aviation Services hosted our Bridport Hangar Open Day. The day started out foggy, and misty with difficult flying conditions. We feared the worst, however by 11:30, our carpark was filling up, and a few aircraft began to arrive. By 12:30 we declared the day a huge success, and we were experiencing overflows in both our carpark and aircraft parking areas. We were absolutely astounded by the support we received from the public, and from aviators from all across the state. Some aircraft had to make 3 attempts to get to us through the trying weather conditions! And they still came!
We must firstly thank those who supported our event! Please, help us to support them, our day was made possible with assistance of the following companies and organisations.
Bridport Lions Club
The Bridport Lions Club made an easy job of feeding all who attended our event. The Lions Club clearly has expertise in putting on a BBQ! We could not have managed without your support. Thanks Lions!
Flinders Island Fresh
Flinders Island Fresh were on-site at our open day with Jo and Hallie showcasing some of the local Flinders Island produce. Their stand was always crowded with our guests looking for more information on their products. Thanks Flinders Island Fresh!
Flinders Island Travel Centre
Michael Buck was on-site representing Flinders Island Travel, and provided information to our guests looking for accommodation, travel packages and island activities. Thanks for your support Flinders Island Travel Centre!
Flinders Island Cabin Park
Marianne was delighted to represent the Flinders Island Cabin Park, and provided guests with information on the cabin park and car hire facilities on the island. Thanks for sharing Marianne!
Local wines were available for tasting from Unavale Vineyard on Flinders Island. Our guests were able to sample some of the wines available on the island and get a true taste of island life. Thanks for the wine Unavale!
Flinders Island Meats
Our BBQ would not have been a BBQ without the meat! We started the day with fresh wallaby, lamb and beef from Flinders Island Meats! The meat was so popular we actually ran out! Our guests loved the sausages, chops and kebabs, and I can tell you from my experience, the meat was a winner! Thanks Flinders Island Meat!
Little Rivers Brewing Co.
In addition to the local wine on show, we had a local beer from Scottsdale, in Tasmania’s North East. Little Rivers Brewing Co provided samples of their beer range, and as many of our guests will agree, it went down quite well! Thanks Little Rivers!
The team at Flinders Island Aviation was overwhelmed with the support we received at our open day. We would like to thank everyone who was involved, and everyone who attended. At one stage we counted 28 aircraft on the ground! And our carpark was overflowing all day! We could not have asked for a better turnout, and we thank those who battled the difficult morning weather conditions to fly in. Please take some time to enjoy some of the photos we got on the day!
