A Day To Remember, Bridport Hangar Open Day

On Saturday the 12th March, Flinders Island Aviation Services hosted our Bridport Hangar Open Day. The day started out foggy, and misty with difficult flying conditions. We feared the worst, however by 11:30, our carpark was filling up, and a few aircraft began to arrive. By 12:30 we declared the day a huge success, and we were experiencing overflows in both our carpark and aircraft parking areas. A Smokey Day For Bass Strait

Our pilots are very experienced in handling the unexpected challenges the weather of Bass Strait is known to throw at us. From strong winds, to rain and storms, and of course the infamous summer sea fogs. Today however, we were surprised by a rarer breed of meteorological phenomena. Today’s light breeze, combined with the bushfires on the West Coast of Tasmania brought about incredibly thick smoke pollution, which for most of the day rendered our Bridport airstrip “unflyable”.
