Bridport Airport Opened. An Historic Occasion

North Eastern Advertiser, Tuesday February 24, 1953.

With work commencing in 1948, the North East Aerodrome Co. Pty Ltd was formed in 1950 with payment of £2000 in the form of shares in the company to land owner Mr M. E. McLennan. The airport was then licenced on January 14th 1953, before the official opening by The RT. Hon. R. G. Casey D.S.O M.C on February 21st 1953.

Since 1953, Bridport Aerodrome has been used by many operators, and for many functions. Flinders Island Aviation Services is proud to continue the legacy, and currently operate services to Flinders Island from the historic airport.

The second ever commercial flight into Bridport, conducted in an A.N.A. Britol Freighter on February 21 1953, carried in a Ferguson tractor, which will be on display at our open day. For more history on the aerodrome, and its role in the local community, past, present and future, join us in celebrating the re-branding of Flinders Island Aviation Services at our open day.
